Child & Youth Worker Free Courses

Eastern College’s Child and Youth Care with Addictions Support Worker Program

Eastern College offers a free Child and Youth Care with Addictions Support Worker diploma program, thanks to government bursaries that cover full tuition and potentially other expenses such as transportation, living costs, and childcare.

The program includes a 6-week field placement for hands-on experience and several field-related certifications, including Non-Violent Crises Intervention (NVCI), First Aid, CPR, and Acquired Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST). Graduates will qualify for positions such as Youth Worker, Family Support Worker, Child/Youth Care Worker, Family-School Liaison Worker, and Human Services Counsellor.

Online Training by The Canadian Centre for Child Protection

The Canadian Centre for Child Protection offers online training designed to increase awareness about child sexual abuse and provide strategies to safeguard children. They offer various training programs, including:

1. Commit to Kids Online Training: This course is targeted at administrators, employees, and volunteers of child-serving organizations, as well as post-secondary students studying to work in child-serving fields. It covers topics like grooming, child sexual abuse, and the role of policies and procedures in creating safe environments for children.

2. Safeguarding Children and Youth: Human Trafficking Children for Sexual Exploitation: This training provides information on trafficking in Canada, signs to watch for, and how to support youth. It is targeted at administrators, employees, and volunteers of schools and child-serving organizations.

3. Kids in the Know Online Training: This program is designed for educators and includes information on implementing the Kids in the Know program in the classroom to increase students’ safety, confidence and competence.

4. Teatree Tells Online Training: Aimed at early childhood educators, this course highlights the importance of starting personal safety conversations with preschool children.

For some of the training programs, you will receive a certificate of completion once you've completed all modules in the training and successfully completed the knowledge validation test. If the training is purchased, you will have full access to it until a certificate of completion is issued (if applicable) or 60 days have passed, whichever is sooner.

While this list is not exhaustive, it provides a starting point for those interested in pursuing a career as a Child and Youth Worker in Canada. Other institutions may offer similar programs, so it's worth reaching out to local colleges, universities, and organizations for additional information.
