It is often said that nurses are the backbone of the healthcare system, and nurses like Kerry-Ann Raymond are a testament to that. Born May 12, 1820, Nightingale is known for pioneering modern nursing. This week marks National Nursing Week in Canada, and in the third year of the pandemic, the theme is #WeAnswerTheCall.
Over the past 10 years, Concerts in Care (CIC), a Toronto-based non-profit, has arranged more than 2,100 concerts for seniors at various care homes in the GTA. When the pandemic hit, the group knew it needed to get back into these spaces quickly and since then they have offered several live Zoom and recorded concerts, reaching audiences in Ontario communities where professional musicians are often harder to come by, such as Cornwall, Peterborough and Thunder Bay.

Ontario is planning to invest an additional $1 billion into home care over three years. Health Minister Christine Elliott says it will ensure Ontarians can receive the care they need in the comfort of their own home and will alleviate pressure on hospitals. The Ontario Hospital Association says that as of mid-January, there were a record 5,800 alternate-level-of-care patients in hospitals — people who could be cared for in a different setting such as home care or long-term care.
