Ontario Resident Hospitalized with Rare Case of Rabies

Abstract:

An Ontario resident is hospitalized after contracting rabies, likely from contact with a bat in the Timiskaming region. Rabies, a rare but fatal viral infection, causes brain and spinal cord inflammation. Ontario’s last human case was in 1967. Close contacts of the patient are being assessed for post-exposure treatment.
