Alcohol Linked to Lower Rescue Rates in Youth Drownings

Abstract:

A new Canadian study found alcohol greatly reduces the likelihood of rescue during youth drowning incidents. Teens aged 15–19 accounted for the highest number of deaths, while alcohol quadrupled the risk of no rescue attempt. Researchers stress the importance of trained lifeguards and proper adult supervision around water.
