Ontario Working to Increase PSWs and Nurses in Long-Term Care

Ontario is planning to invest up to $100 million to add an additional 2,000 nurses to the long-term care sector by 2024-25. The government will do this by supporting the training of thousands of personal support workers (PSWs) and nurses who want to advance their careers in long-term care. Applicants will be expected to commit to working in the long-term care sector through a Return of Service Agreement for a period equivalent to the time they receive these funding supports for their education.

Government of Ontario Invests in Training for Health Care Professionals

The Ontario government is investing $1.2 million in a new program to support innovative and flexible training for current and future personal support workers (PSWs) and nurses. The program, known as the Learning Inter-Professionally Healthcare Accelerator (LIPHA), is being made available for free to over 80,000 caregivers currently employed in Ontario's long-term care homes and will provide a virtual space for teams and individuals in the sector to practice caring for virtual residents.

Healthcare Workers Press Trudeau to Keep Campaign Promise on Paid Sick Leave

A coalition of front-line healthcare workers has asked Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to fast-track proposed legislative amendments to grant paid sick leave to federally regulated workers.
